Mental Capacity Assessment Service

A formal mental capacity assessment may be required for various reasons. Psychiatrists, specially those trained in older people mental health, have the skills and knowledge to carry out mental capacity assessments. We  arrange appointments at our consulting rooms or at individual's place of residence to carry out mental capacity assessments.

A mental capacity assessment may be required for:

  • Court of protection applications
  • Power of attorney applications
  • Testamentary capacity for purposes of wills

How the service works

Arranging appointment

Contact us by email or phone. We will send you a brief information form to complete online. Following this, a mutually convenient time will be arranged for capacity assessment in one of our consulting rooms. Our main consulting room is in Southend-on Sea, on Southchurch Road. We also have facilities to see you in Upminster, Billericay and Basildon.  Our consulting rooms have good road and rail links with easy parking. Fees and payment

Once appointment is arranged, we will send an invoice. To secure appointment, payment is due within 48 hours of invoice. Payment details & conditions will be on the invoice and is through BACS transfer. Confirmation of appointment will be sent once payment is received.

Fees: This depends on type of capacity assessments required and time to carry them out. We will always agree a fees with you before carrying out any assessments. There are additional charges for home visits. Please CONTACT US for a quote.

On the day

On the day of the appointment, the consultant will assess capacity as required. The appointment usually lasts up to an hour. A capacity assessment form and any other relevant documents will be completed. We aim to send all the completed paperwork within 48 hours of the assessment.
